American independent record label located in Detroit, Michigan active in the 1960s. Palmer was owned by The Handleman Co. a Detroit based "record rack jobber" which was owned by the Handleman family (David, and Paul plus other siblings). Handleman went public in 1967 and was traded on the NYSE. They closed Palmer when Irv Biegal left to work for Bell Records in 1967, and relaunched it in 1969 for Joey Welz who was a long time employee of The Handleman Co. Handleman had a distribution hub in Atlanta, as well as multple outlets in Canada.
