Coliseum Record

Profile

British label that was produced from 1912 to 1927. It released the usual popular vocals and dance music of the period (mostly under various pseudonyms). Except towards the end of it's life (1926-1927) all recordings show false "control numbers" rather than true matrix numbers. Sources were British as well as U.S. Vocalion and Gennett. In 1921 a new label design was adopted and the label name became just Coliseum instead of Coliseum Record, but the catalogue series continues in the same series that started in 1912 at 100 (by 1921 it was in the 1300s). The false "control" numbers which began in 1920 in a series beginning at 001 that replaced the real matrix numbers also continued until late 1923 when a new "G" prefix control. series was introduced.
