Recording venue founded in 1934 by Vincent Nola at 111 West 57th Street Penthouse (17th Floor), New York, New York 10019, on top of the Steinway Building, hence the reference to "penthouse" in many credits. Also displayed on releases as: - Nola Penthouse Studios, New York - Nola Studios - Nola Penthouse Sound Studios - Nola Sound Studio Nola Studios was founded in 1934 by Sicilian-born tenor and voice teacher Vincent Nola in two-room premises. By 1948, the facility had grown to become the largest recording venue in the USA, comprising fourteen individual studios in an area of 20,000 square feet at 1657 Broadway, while also retaining the Steinway building premises. In the 1940's, Nola's had became the "by -word" with famous popular, jazz, and classical music artists of the day. As many as forty orchestras had been known to rehearse and record during a twenty four hour period. The facility carried on under family management until about 1977, after which it was operated by [a377770], with partners. Operations ceased around 2018, after Jim's 2017 death.
