Colosseum (4)

Profile

Short-lived bootleg label in the U.S. started by [a=Bruno G. Ronty] in the early 50s. A lawsuit attempt was initiated by the Czech government (on behalf of [l=Supraphon]) after Ronty was found to be selling counterfeit music. Ronty was buying records from the Four Continent Book Shop on Fifth Avenue to use as his music source. The outcome of the lawsuit resulted in the retailers Sam Goody and Records Hunter being sued. Ronty quickly moved to Connecticut to establish [l=Bruno Records], and coincidentally reissued much of the previous releases from the Colosseum label (denoted by CRLP/CRLPX in the runouts on Bruno releases).
