The Folk Years

Profile

As part of its popular "Singers and Songwriters" series, Time-Life Music is proud to present "The Folk Years"— a special four-volume collection of the biggest and best-known folk hits from the late '50s and early '60s. The folk years introduced us to such performers as the Kingston Trio, Joan Baez and Judy Collins, and to such singer-songwriters as Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot and Paul Simon all of whom helped define the adventurous spirit of the '60s. Pioneers like Pete Seeger, Harry Belafonte and the Chad Mitchell Trio cleared the way for all singers and songwriters, then and now, whose distinctive blends of poetry and melody give voice to the hopes and concerns of their generation. Time-Life Music has brought together these four volumes of "Singers and Songwriters" under the title "The Folk Years" because the folk music revival was such an important development among singers and songwriters at the time, and such an influence on those since. Listening to the 120 tracks on these volumes, you will not only rediscover the pleasures of the biggest hits from the folk revival; you will come to appreciate the enormous impact of the movement, which produced new genres such as folk rock and country rock but which also changed the landscape of all popular music forever.
