Superior (5)

Profile

U.S. record label produced by the [l94537] division of the [l498424] of Richmond, Indiana. The first Superior records in a 300 series were released in 1928. The label was revived with a 2500 series in December, 1930, the same month that saw the final commercial [l94537] releases. The Superior label drew on [l498424] masters exclusively, and often duplicated material on Starr's [l359744] label. [l94537] material was also reissued, usually under artist pseudonyms, on the Superior label. Superior was discontinued in June, 1932. At this low point of the Great Depression, record sales were in the low hundred for many issues, and one release sold only 19 copies.
