French Canadian designation of [l185318] since 1974-02-16. Was formerly [l684530] from 1965-09-15 to 1974-02-06. Founded on 1958-01-31 as Capitol Record Club of Canada, Ltd. A vinyl pressing and tape duplication plant was opened next door to the offices in June 1976. It had 17 presses for albums and seven presses for singles. The plant started production with singles only in June and began pressing albums in October 1976. The official opening ceremonies for the new plant were held on June 15, 1977. The plant stopped pressing vinyl on July 13, 1984 but did continue its tape duplication operations. Records pressed at this plant are identified by a Capitol Records "target" logo [ ◎ ] machine-stamped in the runout and on 12" records a 1.5" pressing ring. In September 1973 the company started adding price codes to the spine of releases. [l=Capitol Records (Canada) Ltd.] was founded in 1947 but remained largely inactive until it was purchased by W. Lockwood Miller in 1949. EMI purchased the local company when it purchased a large percentage of Capitol Records. In 1974, the company was renamed Capitol Records-EMI Of Canada Limited. The company was succeeded by [b][l=EMI Music Canada][/b] in 1993 which is still used today.
