Established during the 1970 record ban, M7 was a Sydney based label set up as a joint venture between The Macquarie Broadcasting Service, The Herald & Weekly Times Ltd. and Fairfax subsidiary Amalgamated Television Services, owners of ATN-7. In July 1970, World Broadcasting System changed its name to [l=M7 Records Pty. Limited]. - The "M" standing for Macquarie and the "7" for Channel 7. M7 had its own pressing plant and its product was distributed from June 1971 by the Paul Hamlyn Record Division, then by Tempo (1974-1976), then organised its own distribution (1976-1978). It's primary label was of course [l=M7]. The company changed its name to [l=7 Records] & adopted the Channel 7 TV Logo.. A management buy out saw the name changed toAlso shown as M& [l=Powderworks Records & Tapes Pty. Ltd.]
