US subsidiary of Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. (EMI) created in 1953 to oversee the establishment of the The Gramophone Co. Ltd., [l=Angel Records] label in the USA. The label was folded into Capitol Records, Inc. in 1955 to handle that company's classic repertoire. The company later became an immediate subsidiary of [l=Capitol Records, Inc.] handling electronics. The activities of Electric & Musical Industries ( US ) Limited were grouped as of 1961 into three divisions. The Electron Tube Division marketing the EMI valves formerly distributed by Hoffman Electron Tube, and manufactured at facilities acquired from Voi-Shan Industries. General Communications Division making a variety of television switching equipment, solid state television and pulse distribution equipment, monitors and other electronic items and also distributed the complete range of EMI television cameras and related equipment which was formerly distributed by the Telechrome Manufacturing Corporation. A Magnetic Tape Division distributing EMI video and audio magnetic tape, including electronic instrumentation.
