Boscaland Recordings

Profile

Started in 1992 by [a=DJ H.M.S.] and [a=Jon The Dentist] as the UK's first gabba label. Now JTD runs it on his own. Releases range from gabba to trance to, in the more recent releases, acid techno/trance that tends to be rather percussive. Part of the [l=Truelove Label Collective]. Jon The Dentist tells about the origin of the name 'Boscaland' in the interview, which was posted on the old web site truelove.co.uk, now available only in web archive. "‘Bosca’ comes from a drink called ‘Canei Bosca’ which is filthy, horrible, cheap Italian wine. It’s like Thunderbird." explains Jon The Dentist. "We had a job lot in the studio about 5 years ago so we started drinking it all and wearing sombreros, like you do and we just came up with Boscaland. You know, it all came out of a pissed haze (imitating mexican Bandito accent).. ‘I am Senor Bosca, from Boscaland’". "Bosca Beats arrived later because I wanted to record stuff which was more trancey and bouncy. I had a label called Dream Inn with Baby Doc which we closed down – so I set up Bosca Beats as an outlet for all that stuff. I hate to use the word, but it was more nu-energy, with even more keyboards."
