Independent American record label based out of New York, NY, founded in May, 1977. [b]Label Code: LC 5391 / LC 05391[/b] Originally independent & self-distributing, the label was founded by [a=Kevin Eggers] as a successor to his previous record labels [l=Utopia (2)] and [l=Poppy]. It was later owned by [l=Gramavision] and distributed by Rhino/Atlantic in the 1990s. Tomato became independent again in 2002, after [l=Gramavision] was purchased by [l=Rykodisc]. One of Tomato's most famous releases was the original pressing of the 1977 recording of [a=Philip Glass]'s opera '[m=32996]'.
