American recording label founded in March 2001 by the three founders of New York's Bang on a Can Festival: [a=Michael Gordon (2)], [a=David Lang], and [a=Julia Wolfe] with Bang on a Can managing director [a=Kenny Savelson]. Cantaloupe Music's stated goal is to provide a home for contemporary classical and post-classical music that is, in the words of Michael Gordon, “too funky for the academy.”
