Triple J Hottest 100

Profile

A series of compilations compiled from the top 100 songs of the previous year as voted on by [l=triple j] listeners. One of the largest public music polls in the world. The CD compilations ran from 1994 until 2021, with Volume 28 being the final installment. The 'Triple J Hottest 100' is an annual poll, held by the [l291261] radio network (Australia), to determine the most popular tracks released in that year that had airplay on the station. Voting is generally allowed through to mid-January of the following year, and a countdown revealing the 'Hottest 100’ is traditionally aired on Australia Day (Jan 26). The '1993 Hottest 100' (aired Jan ’94, and featuring tracks contained in this release) was the first time the songs had to have been released in the year of the poll. Previous 'Triple J Hottest 100', and 'Hot 100', polls allowed voters to submit their favourite tracks of all time. Triple J introduced the poll in 1989. The title was changed from the 'Hot 100' for the 1991 poll, after radio station [l556401] objected to the use of the name. Ex 4ZZZ staff, working at Triple J, had allegedly appropriated the concept and name from the Brisbane alternative community radio station, who had introduced their 'Hot 100' listener poll and countdown in 1976.
