Original Sound Studio
Profile
Recording studio of the [l=Original Sound] record label. In 1963 [a=Art Laboe]'s label Original Sound gained the engineering and production skills of [a=Paul Buff], who was in the process of relinquishing his [l=PAL Studio] to [a=Frank Zappa]. Buff's technical skill's in tweaking equipment offered some unique facilities to L.A. bands at that time. Buff engineered many popular artists at the studio, such as [a=Sugarloaf] and [a=Strawberry Alarm Clock], whilst outputting his own work under various pseudonyms - which fitted well with the nature of the label. Though compilation albums of older material are now commonplace, ex DJ Art Laboe was among the first (if not the first) to license material from several labels for the first successful "oldies" albums to hit the market, releasing the compilations on his Original Sound label. Buff also engineered work at the studio for [a=Bill Holmes] and his labels, such as All American. Buff and his wife Allison (who had featured in various past recordings) formed the Buff Organisation, releasing one single (Studio 'A' b/w Upside Down World) made at Original Sound Studios in 1968, before departing to run that organisation.
