Society of Sound Music

Profile

Society of Sound is an online community, launched in 2007 by [l=Bowers & Wilkins] to promote and discuss high quality digital audio formats, equipment, etc. Celebrity contributors of the project are called “Fellows”, and their list includes [a=Peter Gabriel], [a=David A. Stewart], jazz singer [a=Cassandra Wilson], [a=Steve Van Zandt], industrial designer Kenneth Grange, tech specialists from [l=Abbey Road Studios] and [l=Skywalker Sound], etc. In May 2008, B&W started Bowers & Wilkins Music Club, a subscription-based music site, providing downloads of a variety of albums in high-quality Apple Lossless and FLAC formats, recorded in a partnership with Gabriel’s [l=Real World Studios]. Later two entities were merged together, and currently those subscription-based albums were available via Society of Sound. Since January 2019 the membership program is no longer available.
