[b]Groupe de Musique Électroacoustique d'Albi – Tarn[/b] ([b]GMEA[/b]) is a French electroacoustic/experimental music center, established in 1981 by composer [a=Thierry Besche], and based in Albi. Since 2007, GMEA is one of the six National Centers for Musical Creation, alongside with [a=GRAME] in Lyon, [l=GMEM] in Marseilles, [l=CIRM] in Nice, [l=La Muse En Circuit] in Alfortville and [l=Césaré] in Reims. Thierry Besche served as a director of the Group for over thirty years, until [a=Didier Aschour] took over in 2015. Under Aschour's leadership, GMEA became affiliated with [a=Ensemble Dedalus], and organized new annual [i]Riverrun Festival[/i]. Didier also gave the Center a new name – [b]Montagne Noire[/b] ([i]Black Mountain[/i] in English), in reference to Montagne Noire mountains in central southern France that united Occitania region, as well as famous American liberal arts [i]Black Mountain College[/i] (1933–57) and Black Mountain in North Carolina, USA.
