[b]Danmarks Radio[/b] was the name of the Danish national broadcasting corporation from 1959 to 1996. The name of the corporation has evolved over time as follows: - From 1925 to 1959: [l=Den Danske Statsradiofoni] - From 1959 to 1996: Danmarks Radio - Since 1996: [l=DR] Danmarks Radio is often identifiable by it's characteristic "DR" logo (with or without subtitle "Danmarks Radio"), in use since 1962 and typographically distinct from the various logos of DR. [b]History[/b]: By 1959 Danmarks Radio was operating two radio channels, Program 1 and Program 2, and one television channel. The headquarters were located at [l=Radiohuset, Copenhagen] that also housed the concert hall [l=Radiohusets Koncertsal]. In 1960 the first regionally produced radio programs saw the day with a weekly 30 minutes news brief on Program 2: [l=Radio Fyn] (Odense), [l=Radio Syd] (Aabenraa), Bornholms Radio (Rønne), Regionalen (Næstved), [l=Nordjyllands Radio] (Aalborg), and [l=Østjyllands Radio] (Aarhus). [l=Københavns Radio] (Copenhagen) was added in 1962, and on 1 January 1963 a third channel Musikradioen (from 1966 simply Program 3) was inaugurated, with a focus on music programs for the younger generation. Late January the same year, the first Ugens Top 20, the 20 most popular songs of the week, was broadcasted, hosted by 16 years old college student [a=Jørgen Mylius]. In 1964 the "DR" logo of Danmarks Radio was introduced; this logo remained unchanged until 1996. 1964 was also the year were Danmarks Radio Big Band was established. The first daily news program TV-Avisen was broadcasted on 15 October 1965 from Radiohuset. The same year [l=TV-Byen] was inaugurated; from 1970 it became the headquarters of the television division. Starting 1968, television programs in color became common and from 1 October 1969 radio programs were broadcast in stereo on a regular basis. [l=Radio Midt & Vest] (based in Holstebro) saw the light in 1974 and [l=Kanal 94] (Vejle) in 1980. By 1984 Danmarks Radio still had monopoly on nationwide television; this year the highest number of simultaneous viewers ever are registered: 3.6 million people watch an re-run of the popular TV-series Matador. The monopoly lasts until 1988 and the opening of [l=TV 2 Danmark]. Sometimes in 1996, Danmarks Radio officially changed name to [l=DR].
