Paramount Records

Profile

Paramount Records was a movie soundtrack and pop music label created in January 1969 by conglomerate Gulf+Western Industries, which had purchased [l=Paramount Pictures] in 1968. Pop reissues from the [l=Dot Records] back catalog, a label that Paramount had owned since 1957, also appeared on this label. In 1971, the label was placed under the administration of its [l=Famous Music (3)] music publishing division. The company's unique reissue imprint was the [l=Famous Twinsets] series, which contained two different LPs from one artist in a double album package; it was generally considered a good quality reissue series. The label ended with the sale of both Paramount and Dot labels to [l=ABC Records] in 1974. Please note: This label includes releases branded Paramount or Paramount Records. Some releases used an alternate version of the classic mountain & stars logo.
