Record label founded in 1985 as [l=WWE Records] by [a=Vince McMahon], [a=Neil Lawi] and [a=James A. Johnston]. Since its foundation, it was distributed by [l=BMG]. After fourteen years, the label changed its name to [l=Smackdown Records], since the premiere of [i]SmackDown[/i] and signed a new distribution deal with [l=Koch Records] (known today as [l=eOne Music]). In 2002, the label, once again, changed its name to WWE Music Group and signed a new distribution deal with [l=Sony Music Entertainment] a year later. WWE Music was distributed by [l=Columbia Records] until 2013, when distribution moved to the [l=Warner Music Group]. The [l=Alternative Distribution Alliance] handles physical distribution for the label's independent releases, while [l=Atlantic Records] distributes the label's major-label releases. The WWE/WMG distribution deal will expire around 2024 after a decade. The label is privately doing business as WWE Music Group, LLC. or WWE Music Publishing (for publishing purposes).
