New York City-based American record label owned by Universal Music Group (UMG). It was founded by [a=Avery Lipman] and [a=Monte Lipman] as an independent label in 1995, and was acquired by UMG in 2000. It was initially an imprint of the [l=The Universal/Motown Records Group], and was renamed [l=Universal Republic Records] after a reorganization in 2006 (thus merging Republic with [l=Universal Records]) before going back to its original name in 2012. In 2024, Republic, [l=Island Records] and [l=Def Jam Recordings] were aligned to operate under UMG's newly formed "East Coast Operations" unit, [l=Republic Corps]. Also appears as "Republic" on some releases.
