Zoth Ommog

Profile

German record label for EBM, Electro-Industrial, Dark Electro and Synthpop music. It was founded in early 1989 by [a=Andreas Tomalla] (a.k.a. [a=Talla 2XLC]) after leaving [l=Techno Drome International] and cancelling the contract with [l=ZYX Records]. The label's name 'Zoth Ommog' was taken from a character in Lin Carter's 'Xothic Legend Cycle', based on the Cthulhu Mythos of [a=H.P. Lovecraft]. Under the tagline 'Zoth Ommog (...for the toughest Aggrepo)' Talla continued the early program of Techno Drome International with artists like [a=Bigod 20], [a=Pankow], [a=Aircrash Bureau], [a=Leæther Strip], [a=X Marks The Pedwalk] (ex-[a=Scarecrow]), [a=Armageddon Dildos], [a=Orange Sector] and many others. Besides companies such as [l=Machinery Records], [l=Off Beat], [l=Energy Rekords], [l=Hypnobeat] and [l=Celtic Circle Productions], Zoth Ommog was the driving force in the European electronic scene for almost one decade. After Talla decided to go for a more Trance/Techno direction with the labels [l=Suck Me Plasma], [l=Technoclub Records] and [l=Tetsuo] the record label was handed over to the A&R control of [a=Sven Freuen]. When Freuen decided to leave Zoth Ommog in 1994, the label was run by Alexander Hergenhahn for a short period (about 7 month) before it was taken over by [a=Torben Schmidt] ([a=Lights Of Euphoria]) in 1995 (later founder of [l=Infacted Recordings]) who brought the label back to former strength by signing acts such as [a=Funker Vogt], [a=Front 242], [a=Numb], [a=Front Line Assembly], [a=In Strict Confidence] and [a=Decoded Feedback]. After two years, [a=Dennis Ostermann] (In Strict Confidence) was added to the label as its promoter. Schmidt and Ostermann left the label in late 1998 right before it went under in late 1999. The last A&R for Zoth Ommog were [a=Andreas Lechleiter] and [a=Vernon Baur] with only releasing 4 CDs within the last 12 months of the label's existence. Some of the artists went to Zoth Ommog's unofficial successor [l=Bloodline] The labels [l=Metropolis] and [l=Cleopatra] re-released a number of Zoth Ommog albums in the U.S. From the ZOT CD 100 ([r133330]) the label uses the following format of the catalogue number for all releases (Maxis, EPs, LPs): CD ZOT XXX. Therefore the last "below-100" Zoth Ommog release is [r152081] (ZOT CD 19). Label Code: LC 7036 / LC 07036 Zoth Ommog was a label of [l298290]. Distributed by [l37258] til 1997, then Distributed by [l114148].
