Profile

Mascot Records was founded in Phoenix, Arizona by Jack Curtis (RIP - 2023) in 1960. The label is best known as being the first label to record The Spiders before that band morphed into Alice Cooper and over the years, Jack has become known by many Alice Cooper fans as "the man who discovered Alice Cooper". The label was active from 1960 to 1969 and briefly in the 1970s. Some of Arizona's best and most popular artists recorded for Mascot; including The Spiders, P-Nut Butter, Frank Fafara, Jim Boyd, Roosevelt Nettles and many more. Prior to Jack Curtis starting Mascot Records, he produced records for several other Arizona-based labels, including MCI. Mascot did not release any albums in the 60s, only 45s, many of which were engineered by Jack Miller at Audio Recorders in Phoenix, AZ. Dwayne Witten, a member of one of Mascot's bands, acquired the label from Jack Curtis in 2011 and revived the label by releasing an anthology CD titled "The Mascot Records / Jack Curtis Story". Other titles available from Mascot include a repro of the original Spiders 45 "Why Don't You Love Me" b/w "Hitch Hike". In 2024, Mascot began licensing titles from other labels for issue and re-issue on CD and the label's current project is releasing 5 Craig Erickson CDs in Sept. 2024.
