QCA Custom Pressing

Profile

QCA Custom Pressing, Inc. - mastering/cutting, pressing and manufacturing company of [l=QCA, Inc.]. Sometimes also referred to as [l=QCA Custom Division]. Sometimes associated to "Q.C.A. Recording Studios", also known as [l=QCA Studios]. Vinyl masterings/cuts can be identified by a QCA in the runout, when in combination with an engineer, use Lacquer Cut At. (Attention with Warner Bros. and Reprise records often featuring an unrelated QCA in their matrix - example here - do not credit QCA in these cases). Vinyl pressings can be identified by the unique matrix numbers found in the runouts, e.g. 8104N3 = pressings until 1979 306081 = pressings until 1984 607034X = pressings from 1980 to 1987. 8X139 = pressings since 1988 The first number indicates the year, the next two digits indicate the month and the last three digits indicate the order number. So, 306081 translates to: order no. 81, pressed in June 1983. An X was appended in 1980 to indicate a two-step mastering process. It became standard in 1985. The later system was basically the same: 8X139 translates to order no. 39, pressed in January 1988 after a two-step mastering process. Sequential numbers from the runouts should be entered in LCCN (e.g. 306081 or 607035X or 8104N3). Do not add other numbers, not corresponding to this matrix number system. Known lacquer cutting engineers: [a=Todd Deasey] (TD) [a=Mike Fuller] (MF) [a=Ron Hamad] (RH) [a=Donnie Kraft] (DK) [a=Chuck Madden] (CM) [a=Ken Martin (4)] (KM) [a=Ric Probst] (RP) [a=Larry Ratliff] (LR) [a=Don Schepmann] (DS) [a=Roger Seibel] (RS) [a=Chuck Seitz] (CS) Note: OM or -OM- in the runouts stand for "Outside Master", indicating that the cut was not done inhouse by QCA but by a different studio.
