MCA Pressing Plant, Pinckneyville

Profile

Defunct American record pressing plant located in Pinckneyville, Illinois. Originally opened in 1956 by [l=Decca Records, Inc.] From 1956 to June 1970, the plant was operated as [l763542], until renamed by its parent [l878], which operated it under the new name from 1970. It was renamed [l=Uni (8)] in late 1990 and it (and MCA) in 1995 became part of what would be from 1996 [l38404]. Renamed as [l=Universal, Pinckneyville, IL] in late 1996. Pinckneyville was closed in 2007. Runout Identifiers: - From 1970 to January 1973, pressings can be identified by a stamped '②', or a stamped or etched numeral '2' in runouts. This same identifier applies to the earlier Decca plant. - After January 1973, pressings can be identified by a '◈-P-◈' or '✧-P-✧' (two diamond shapes with a P in the middle) stamp or etching in the runouts. - The '2' re-appeared after 1990. - Contract pressings for other labels often carry an 'MCA-I' or 'MCA-Ill" (for Illinois) etch in runouts. Label Identifiers: - Decca pressings from this plant can sometimes be identified by a '◆' symbol printed at the end of the B side label matrix numbers, though these markings are not always reliable (as labels were sometimes used by other pressing plants), and should be applied with caution. If in doubt, kindly consult the forum. - [l681]/[l3820] pressings from this pressing plant can be identified by a 'DCW' suffix in the label matrix numbers (which stood for Decca Custom West). - After 1980, pressings on MCA and distributed labels have Side markers set in mixed-case with a numeral ("Side 1"), with track listings left-justified. - [l2553] releases often have Plant Code '15' or 'P' printed on the labels. - [l=London Records] and associated labels often have plant code 'K' printed on the labels. This plant is known to have pressed for Columbia Records.
