Shake It! Records is a record store and record label located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Shake It Records Label was started by Jess Hirbe & Doc Kalmus in 1978 as a way to issue records from local artists - mainly The Customs. It sat dormant for most of the 1980's until it was revived to issue The Mortals "The One" 7' in 1993. They specialized in releasing diverse music from Cincinnati artists but have put out records for many well known national acts as well; including The National, Easy Action, Greg Dullie, & The Drive-by Truckers. Shake It! has begun releasing forgotten/obscure/hard-to-find original music in its "Music From Ohio" series. The label also continues its constant relationship with its flagship band Wussy, who have garnered more praise and notoriety with each of their 5 proper studio albums. Shake It! was named one of the "Best Record Stores In America" by Rolling Stone magazine and has won the Cincinnati local weekly reader newspaper poll (City Beat) "Best Record Store" award for a dozen straight years.
