Teldec-Studio, Berlin

Recording and mastering studios of record companies Telefunken and TELDEC, established in the early 1950s in Berlin Lichterfelde. Lacquer cutting lasted until 1981. Credit the studio with Lacquer Cut At (when in combination with an engineer code e.g. A-B-I). By the end of 1981, four Neumann DMM lathes were installed, replacing the old machines. Credit the studio with Mastered At (when in combination with an engineer code e.g. Pü-B-II). Studio services: recording, mixing, dubbing, editing, disk and tape mastering, library of sound effects, echo chambers, custom cassette duplication. The control room was equipped with a 16-track Teldec/Telefunken console (later enhanced to 24 tracks). The facilties also included technical research and development laboratories, headed by Horst Redlich. There, a.o., the variable pitch control technology was finalized, Teldec's stereo LP records were developed (1955), an 8-channel tape recorder was constructed (1959), and the high density recording process was developed (1970), paving the way for the Mini-Disc and for DMM. And, together with the Georg Neumann GmbH, the laboratories also developed and advanced new cutting equipment, leading to Neumann's lathes VMS 66, VMS 70, VMS 80 and the DMM lathe VMS 82. After the decision to close the studios, former studio employees and recording engineers Martin Sauer, Tobias Lehmann and Friedemann Engelbrecht rented and operated the studio complex until 2002, and then renamed it [l=Teldex Studio, Berlin].
