Reuveni Bros.

Profile

Hebrew - אחים ראובני. The Reuveni Brothers company was founded in 1963 by Meir Reuveni, selling electronics, appliances, and cassette recordings in the Hatikva neighborhood of Tel Aviv. In 1966 the store began to sell records and bootleg cassettes of Greek music. In 1974, a live cassette recording of the group [a=Tszliley Hakerem] (Sounds of the Vineyard), recorded at Asher Reuveni’s wedding, began to circulate and created a huge demand for party music mixing Greek, Jewish, and Yemenite styles. This craze led to the 1975 studio-recorded release of the LP “Bezokri Yamim Yamima” by [a=Tszliley Hakerem], the first LP produced by the Reuveni Brothers, on the [l=Galton] label. At the same time, [l=Koliphone] released an LP with many of the same songs, recorded by [a=Lehakat Tzliley Ha'oud], a “rival” band. From 1975 until 1984, the Reuveni Brothers continued to release different kinds of Mizrahi music through the [l=Galton] label, until they officially began releasing albums under their own label name up to the present day. Also, from approximately 1977-1981, they produced several albums of Greek music by local singers on the label [l=Gloria Disc], a sublabel of [l=Galton] that meant to appear as an “import” label.
