U.A. Records, Limited

Profile

Canadian firm formed by [l=UNited Artists Records] as an independent company starting January 15, 1972 to focus on promotion, marketing, and product development in the Canadian market. It was most often credited for manufacturing and distribution on Canadian issues of UA products. After its formation, [l=MCA Records (Canada)] no longer distributed United Artists product in Canada. Distribution of United Artists product at the time of formation was originally handled by [l=Capitol Records (Canada) Ltd.] in Ontario and Québec, by Waldale Limited in the Maritimes, by Thomas Rathwell Limited in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, by Acklands Limited in Alberta, and by Johnston Appliances in British Columbia. On August 1, 1977 distribution switched to [l=RCA Limited]. U.A. Records, Limited closed one year later, on August 1, 1978. After that date the United Artists label was handled by [l=Capitol Records-EMI Of Canada Limited]. Unsold stock was transferred from the RCA Smiths Falls warehouse to Capitol and these remainders may have their RCA credits stickered over with Capitol information. In December 1973 U.A. Records, Limited opened two publishing companies: - [l=United Artists Music (Canada) Ltd.] affiliated with CAPAC - [l=Unart Music (Canada) Ltd.] affiliated with BMI.
