SMEA

Profile

SMEA (an acronym of 'Sony Music Entertainment Australia') was an optical disc manufacturing facility located in Huntingwood, New South Wales, Australia. Operated by the parent company [l=Sony Music Entertainment (Australia) Limited] — the record company was active under this name from February 23rd 1995 to February 2004. From March 1993 to mid-1995 the plant was formerly known as [l=Sony Music Australia] (run by [l=Sony Music Australia Limited]). It wasn't until mid-1995 that the SONY MUSIC AUSTRALIA name began being replaced by SMEA in disc matrices (at which point SMEA had their own glass mastering capabilities). Two early examples of a SMEA pressings are the CD singles: • '[r13937656]' — Matrix: '0056975000000 01 🝊 🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊 IFPI L681 SMEA ' (released July 17th 1995). • '[r7625643]' — Matrix: '0057962 01 🝊 🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊 IFPI L681 SMEA' (released August 28th 1995). Glass masters created by SMEA almost always have a company pressing number located in the matrix ring — a string of either seven or thirteen digits (see above). These numbers may appear alongside the release catalogue number, or alone, and should be entered as a catalogue number for SMEA in the LCCN section. If thirteen digits are present, please enter all thirteen in the LCCN. In 2004, [l=Sony Disc Manufacturing] unified all of its international manufacturing facilities (excluding Japan) under the [l=Sony DADC] moniker, after which time (approx. late 2005 — early 2006) the SMEA name was replaced by [l=Sony DADC Australia] in disc matrices.
