Disjuncta

Profile

[a=Richard Pinhas] created Disjuncta Record in 1972 to release a single by his band Schizo. Disjuncta was arguably the first totally independent French label, benefiting from Pinhas' home studio facilities. They had their own manual cutting pressing facilities at the start, moving on to using other pressing companies when the workload got too great. They sold their records to independent stores and through mail-order only in France. In the UK they were distributed by TOL (The Other Labels). During their most active period (1974-75) the label issued seven albums, three by Richard Pinhas' band [a=Heldon], plus releases by Parisian friends [a=Alain Renaud], [a=Lourival Silvestre] and ZAO and an album of Gamelan traditional music. In late 1975 Richard Pinhas sold the label to his manager for the cost of a Big Moog system. The manager renamed the label [l=Urus Records] (although Disjuncta catalogue references often remained). Most previous releases were reissued under the new label name.
