Owned by entertainment attorney and artist manager [a348491] and his son [a171166], Blackground was initially founded in 1993 as [l70430] to release music by [a348491]'s niece, [a13733]. Named [l10386] until 2000, it switched distribution deals over time - releases were previously distributed by Jive, Atlantic, Virgin and Universal Motown. Reportedly dormant since 2013, after an aborted campaign to release new music by [a13733] with current artists and producers such as [a151199]. Please look up the logo on a specific release carefully to distinquish which one of these three labels should be used.
