Originally German label, later Czech label. Motto: [i]Ultraphon spiegelt den Ton[/i] (in Czech: Ultraphon věrný tón) The name [u]Ultraphon[/u] first appeared in Heinrich J. Küchenmeister’s [u]Heinrich J. Küchenmeister & Co. KG[/u] in 1925 and later with [u]Deutsche Ultraphon Aktiengesellschaft[/u] (aka Duag). Since April 1929 Duag was under control of [u][l454746][/u] Berlin-Amsterdam (aka Intraphoon). After Duag declared bankruptcy in 1931, the German catalog was acquired by [l=Telefunken]. In 1932, the Czech label branch was bought by Ravitas, spol. s r.o., which had already been producing and distributing Ultraphon records in Czechoslovakia since 1929. In 1933, Ravitas was transformed into [u]Ultraphon, akciová společnost pro průmysl a obchod gramofonový[/u] based in Prague. The company owned the rights to the Ultraphon (only in Czechoslovakia) and “[l=Supraphon]” trademarks (worldwide, except in the Netherlands and its colonies). In 1945, Ultraphon was nationalized in Czechoslovakia (Beneš decrees - 100/1945 Sb.) and incorporated into a new company, [u]Gramofonové Závody, národní podnik[/u], based in Prague. After that, a new label [l=Supraphon U] was created where the "U" stands for Ultraphon. The Czech Ultraphon catalog consists of well over 3000 shellac records. It was incorporated into [l=Supraphon] after World War II, with many historical recordings eventually being transferred to tape and reissued on vinyl LPs until the late 1980s.
