Peter J. Fiumara II (restaurant/bar owner and a painter) & Alfredo Rico-Dimas (graphic designer and architect) started Fort Point Recordings in Boston, Massachusetts in 2009. The label instantly focused on its surrounding artists in the Boston & Cambridge areas. The name 'Fort Point' is after the Boston neighborhood that is inhabited by artists and once home to a notable nightclub. The Channel was a venue that provided local bands like Mission Of Burma, Treat Her Right, 'Til Tuesday and Pixies a place to preform along side bands like The Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Minor Threat. Fiumara & Rico-Dimas wanted to pay respect to that era of music and the neighborhood those bands preformed in, hence Fort Point.
