Legendary French label founded in 1970 by 24 year old Chantal D'Arcy (who gave her name to the label: CHANtal DARcy) with assistance from French music critic [a1156170], and financed by art collector [a=Aimé Maeght] (the artist behind the Fondation Maeght). The label was begun with encouragement from [a195812], whose recordings D'Arcy was searching for a label to release. D'Arcy decided that other labels were not showing enough commitment artistically and decided to release the recordings herself. The complete presentation, including artwork, was important to her, but she was frustrated with the quality of pressing and printing in France at the time. Shandar is owned since 1992 by Thierry Wolf french company FGL PRODUCTIONS.
