Pyral

Profile

Pyral was the brand name of the French manufacturer "La Societé des Vernis Pyrolac", later renamed to "Pyral S.A.R.L." and then to "Pyral S.A." Also branded Disques Pyral "L'Écho du Monde". In 1934, Pyrolac invented the nitrocellulose lacquer-coated disc for the production of vinyl record masters and for use as transcription discs. The lacquers replaced the wax / shellac disc, previously used for the production of records. The lacquer formula was licensed in 1938 to Audio Devices Inc, USA, who produced the "[l=Audiodisc]" brand, and in 1946 to EMI, who produced the ""Emidisc" brand of lacquer discs. "PYRAL" is sometimes found embossed on the center labels of records. In these cases, add to the Release Notes "Cut on a Pyral acetate blank". Also manufactured under the Pyral brand were: 16mm and 35mm magnetic and leader films, magnetic tapes, cassettes, video and computer tapes. With the demise of the vinyl format as the main music carrier, Pyral ceased manufacturing of lacquer discs and disposed of their chemical formula. Pyral S.A. was originally based in Créteil, France, but moved to Avranches in 1985.
