Universal Records South originally began as [l123525] Records in 2001 under [l38404] by record producers [a316990] and [a661487]. The label initially specialized in country music artists, but also signed contemporary Christian artists as well. When Brown and DuBois stepped down from Universal South in 2006, country record producer [a510591] took their place as label president, with a slight name change to the label. In December 2009, [a969727]'s [l100010] and Universal Records South were merged to form [l214398].
