Originally the label was founded in 1994 as [l=Global] in Covilhã, Portugal by [a=José Manuel Soares], owner of the record store "Contraste", that also had the weekly radio show "Filhos da Pátria" in the same station Radio Clube da Covilhã, for the release "Portugal Rebelde" compilations. But to avoid problems with the portuguese assurance company Global, the name was changed to "Titanica" in the second and last number of "Portugal Rebelde" CD. Titanica was the first portuguese independent record label to release a digipak format in the market.
