Profile

In 1994, [a=Jeff Johnson (2)] and [a=Chris Cox] launched a dance label out of their bedrooms. [l=Interhit Records] soon became one of the most successful dance labels in America enjoying countless chart hits with some of the 90s biggest dance artists: Culture Beat, Cappella, Outta Control, Thunderpuss, DJ Supreme, Sonic Dream Collective, and many more. Interhit introduced many international dance artists to U.S. audience for the first time by including them on their successful dance compilations, which included the DMA Dance series, the NRG volumes and Mega Hit Dance Party CDs. In 1998, Interhit won the first-ever "Best Dance Recording" Grammy for "Carry On" by Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder. In that same year, Interhit released the top-selling independent dance single of the year - Déjá Vu's "My Heart Will Go On". The release of the critically acclaimed Thunderpuss produced The Dance Album by Engelbert Humperdinck resulted in Engelbert's first Top 40 U.K. hit in over 20 years and found great success worldwide. In 1999, Interhit's distribution deal ended and Chris Cox left to achieve worldwide fame as one half of Thunderpuss. Thunderpuss has produced remixes for some of pop music's biggest stars, including Madonna, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias, among others (24 #1 hits on Billboard in the last three years). In 1999, Jeff Johnson launched dance indie [l=Megahit Records] which has enjoyed success with its Teckno compilation series. Megahit also distributes and packages the catalog of Italian dance indie powerhouse SAIFAM - best known for their mid-90's top 40 hit "What's Up" by DJ Miko. In the Fall of 2002, Chris and Jeff reunited to launch a new company - Provocative Music with the release of three new compilations produced for EMI: "Provocative Trance" mixed by Chris Cox, "Provocative Progressive" mixed by Dave Dresden and "12 Inches of Cox" mixed by Chris Cox. Provocative's single releases include the recent Top 10 Billboard Dance Chart hit "Open Up Your Mind" by EMI Italy's Eyes Cream, the fast-rising radio hit "Gates of Mind" by EMI Hungary's Sterbinszky & Tranzident.
