Rodriguez Lopez Productions

Profile

Rodriguez Lopez Productions (RLP) was an American independent record label based in Los Angeles, California, and acting as the private imprint and core publisher for [a=Omar Rodriguez-Lopez] and his various associated bands and projects — most notably, [a=The Mars Volta]. It was established by Rodriguez Lopez in collaboration with [l=Sargent House] as a successor to [l=Gold Standard Laboratories] (GSL), his primary label since 2001. Unlike Gold Standard Laboratories, which kept a small roster of unrelated acts (some predating Rodriguez Lopez), the new venture focused exclusively on Omar's oeuvre and his close friends and associates, such as [a=Bosnian Rainbows], [a=Zechs Marquise], [a=Deantoni Parks], and [a=Eureka The Butcher] (solo electronic project of Omar's younger brother, [a=Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez]). Active between 2007 and early 2016, Rodriguez Lopez Productions released 30 albums with RLPxxx catalog numbers and published two independent films directed by Omar, The Sentimental Engine Slayer (2010) and Los Chidos (2012). After RLP went defunct, Rodriguez-Lopez signed with [a=Mike Patton]'s [l=Ipecac Recordings] and, most recently, with [a=Johann Scheerer]'s [l=Clouds Hill].
