Exulta

Profile

Exulta was a label briefly used for Elektra releases in Germany. In 1971 the distribution of all US Elektra records had passed from [l=Metronome] to the newly formed [l=Kinney Music GmbH]. To avoid confusion and legal problems with the EMI owned Electrola GmbH, Kinney decided to establish the Exulta moniker. After EMI merged Electrola and the Carl Lindström GmbH to form EMI Electrola in early 1972, the dispute could be settled. Kinney from 1972 on, and from 1973 on Kinney's successor [l=WEA Musik GmbH] used the name Elektra in Germany. All known Exulta records come with Elektra's standard butterfly label. (However, many 7" picture sleeves from the Exulta era bear the name Elektra on the cover - but apparently never on the labels...)
