Sesame Street Records was a custom independent label created in 1974 to release singles and albums of material from the [a142433] television program, as well as original recorded material featuring the show's cast. It had a custom record label logo of the Sesame Street sign. These albums were manufactured by [l111050] and by [l461592]. Over 70 titles were produced over the ten-year run of the label. The catalog included reissues of all of the previous Columbia and Warner Bros. albums, although in less lavish packages than their original editions. At first, titles were only issued on vinyl, but over the years, they were also produced on cassettes and 8-track tapes. The Sesame Street Records label was shut down around 1984. - From 1974 to 1976, titles were manufactured and distributed by [l111050]. - From 1977 to 1984, titles were manufactured and distributed by [l461592]. - The label was shut down in 1984. - The first six albums were released by Columbia Records and Warner Bros. These were deluxe albums, issued in colorful gatefold covers, usually with bonus material such as posters, lyric booklets, and photos and drawings of the show's characters. This lasted for the first five years of the show. - The first Sesame Street album label design was yellow, with blue and white rings around the outside edge. At the top of the label was an olive green Sesame Street sign, with white lettering, and outlined in blue. This version of the label was used from 1974 to 1976. The second Sesame Street album label design was yellow, with white and blue-green rings around the outside edge. At the top of the label was a slightly smaller dark green Sesame Street sign, with white lettering and outlining. This version of the label was used from 1977 to 1984. All titles originally released between 1974 and 1976 were also reissued with the new label design, as well as updated distributor information on the label and on the back cover. Canadian pressings look similar to the US versions, except that they mention being manufactured and distributed by Pickwick Records of Canada, instead of Children's Records of America or Distinguished Productions. Sesame Street singles in the US were only released with solid-colored labels. In 2018, the Sesame Street Records label was revived in association with WMG's Arts Music.
