US rhythm & blues and soul label founded by [a276618] in 1966 as a subsidiary of [l21764], and based in New York City. The label was inactive for a time, but was revived in 1971. For company credits, please consider [l62648] or [l905048], when credited that way on release. [a1913834] originally handled promotion for the label from his office in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1967 Berns passed away, and his widow [a1987075] took over both Bang and Shout. She hired [a2104366] to manage the labels, and they later married. The couple moved the labels to Atlanta in 1971, and then sold them to [l19936] in 1979.
