The Brazilian subsidiary of [l=Universal Music Group]. Universal Music Ltda.'s history dates back to 1945. The earliest Universal Music predecessor was [l=Sinter], which operated between 1945 and 1955. In 1955, it was renamed [l=Companhia Brasileira De Discos] and Philips acquired the company three years later. The name was changed to [l303270] in April 1971, followed by [l=Polygram Discos Ltda.] between 1978 to 1985. In 1985, it was renamed [l=Polygram do Brasil Ltda.]. After the purchase of [l=PolyGram] by Universal Music Group at the end of 1998, it was merged with Universal Music in 1999.
