Profile

This is an Argentinian record company, not a label. Do not credit as a label. For credits referring to pressings by this record company, use [l684325]. Argentinian [l=EMI Ltd.] subsidiary, distribution company and vinyl factory. Originally known as [l876359]. A product of [l=EMI]'s 1955 acquisition of [l=Capitol Records], it absorbed local Capitol company [l=Música Argentina E Internacional S.R.L.]. The company beings to appear in credits from 1957 onwards. In 1968 management of most EMI labels was handled to [l=E.M.I. Suppliers (Sud América) S.A.C. e I.] with IEMO limited to pressing vinyl (appearing as [l=I.E.M.O. Bs. As.]) while the company proper kept the [l=Odeon] and [l=Odeon Pops] labels. Both operated in conjunction until [l=EMI-Odeon S.A.I.C.] took over their operations in 1973/1974. The exact date of the renaming is unknown but it's suspected that it began in July 1973, concurrent with the creation of [l=EMI Records Ltd.]. Through it's tenure, IEMO SAIC represented the non-EMI labels [l=Liberty], [l=London Records], [l=Capitol Records] and attained pressing deals with local labels [l=Producciones Fermata] Important: Releases with the phrase "Reconstrucción Técnica Año XXXX" does not always mean year of release. They can mean it's a compilation of remastered tracks from multiple sources, usually from 40s and 50s 78RPM records or indicate the release in question is a remaster of a previous release (Chiefly turn of the 60s LPs). The #cat & matrix number of the original release will be normally present carried on to these reissues but neither of them are guaranteed to remain the same. Some releases may be reissued without changes except for minimal signs such as adding an IEMO number or a change in printer company name. If reissues, most of these releases do not indicate year of reissue, tread carefully. Important: Do not confuse IEMO numbering with #cat number. A "IEMO number" is an XXX, XXXX and XXXXX number written on one of the corners of ther back cover. This does not indicate catalog but an internal numbering scheme. It is usually inherited from release to reissue, but it isn't guaranteed. These codes may be sequential, but their use is inconsistent. 5XXX & 6XXX & 7XXX - Found haphazardly all across the 60s 8XXX - 1967 9XXX - 1965. 10XXX - 1967 & 1968. 11XXX - 1969. 12XXX - 1970 & 1971. 13XXX - 1971 & 1972. Numbering becomes inconsistent during 1971 and ends by 1972, [l243283] series N° 119 onwards starts missing numbers and N° 145 is last known IEMO number. Important: Do not write IEMO numbering as EMI #cat EMI-Odeon S.A.I.C. reissues reprinted IEMO cover art with minimal changes and as a result many of these numbers are carried over. These numbers are defunct by then and serve nor purpose but to unwittingly indicate it's a reissue. EMI-Odeon S.A.I.C. #cat numbering follows a similar format to [l=E.M.I. Suppliers (Sud América) S.A.C. e I.] and may be a continuation of it. It is also known to reprint with the same cat# as the IEMO issues. IEMO/EMI-Odeon issues were prone to reusing printing assets and it's not uncommon to find label designs that are inaccurate or give contradicting credits. Example: Odeon's black label logo is almost universally accompanied by "Alta Fidelidad Fabricado por Industrias Eléctricas y Musicales ODEON S.A.I.C" below even when EMI-Odeon is credited on covers and date information indicates it had already replaced the company. Format introductions and Catalogue Numbers: 10'' 78RPMs continue production until 1961, chiefly under the [l=Odeon Pops] Label. 10'' LPs (Vinyl Microgroove 331/3RPM) of 4 tracks per side are introduced in 1954 by it's predecessor IEMO SRL. By 1957, the 12'' LP is already present. A small number of 10'' LPs are pressed in 1965 (#Cat LDS-7XXX). In 1957 the 7'' tri-centre 45RPM format (#Cat DSOA-XXXX), both EP and Single, is introduced. It was discontinued in 1962 in favour of the Solid centre 7'' 331/3RPM EP and Single (#Cat DTOA-XXXX). Schemes 1957-1968 DSOA-XXXX - Tri-Centre Single // 1957-1962 DSOA/E-XXXX - Tri-Centre EP // 1957-1962 LDS-XXX & LDS-XXXX - LP // 1957-???? DTOA-XXXX - Solid Centre Single // 1962-???? DTOA/E-XXXX - Solid Centre Single // 1962-???? Special Variants: LDY-XXXX YTOA-XXXX YSOA-XXXX Where the Y can be B - ?? E - ?? I - ?? M - ?? X - ?? LSD-7000 - 10'' LP / 1965 Series #cats: DMO-55XXX - [l=Organizacion Amigos Del Disco] / [l529215] / [l842106] 4XXX - [l=Coleccion Musical] 9XXX - [l=Galeria Odeon] Represented labels #cats LIB-XXXX - [l=Liberty] Records LPs. DLM-5XXX - [l=London Records] Singles. DLM/E-5XXX - [l=London Records] EPs. LLC-5XXX - [l=London Records] LPs. Catalogues are in general haphazard in application and many variants exist. These are merely the most common ones. Schemes 1968-1972, shared with [l=E.M.I. Suppliers (Sud América) S.A.C. e I.] .
