Australian label briefly produced in 1930-1931 which used a unique type of flexible material invented by Frederick George Mitchell which he patented in May 1929 & January 1930. This label is related to the earlier flexible labels Aeroplane (6) and Golden Tongue which were produced by Unbreakable Disc Records Ltd. at 225 Bay Street, Brighton, Melbourne in 1928 using an earlier patented process by Mitchell. Two companies were involved in the production of Bellbird: 1. Unbreakable Record Pty. Ltd., 225 Bay Street, Brighton, Melbourne which produced records in a 100 series (known range 100-151) and a 300 series (300-321) which mainly used masters from U.S. Grey Gull, plus a few from Australian Vocalion, UK Imperial and U.S. Plaza. These records were made in 1930 and show "Unbreakable" at the top of the label. 2. Flexible Record Co.. Ltd., 225 Bay Street, Brighton, Melbourne which produced records in a continuation of the 300 series (known range 329-346) and possibly in a 200 series of which only single record #209 is known. These records were made in 1931 ands show "Flexible" at the top of the label. The final Bellbird records were released in June 1931, and the company went into liquidation in July 1931.
