Black Truffle

Profile

Black Truffle Records is an Australian experimental/improv/noise/abstract/etc. music label, founded in 2009 by [a=Oren Ambarchi]. Available from: USA – [l29114] / Europe – [l276765]. Launched with a couple of Ambarchi's long out-of-print vinyl reissues on CD, Black Truffle then released a remastered version of seminal 'Afternoon Tea' collaborative album with new artwork. Most well-known releases on the label are 3 albums, exclusively produced for Black Truffle by [a=Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, Oren Ambarchi] trio. Other notable collaborations Ambarchi recorded for his own label include 'The Mortimer Trap' (with [a=Thomas Brinkmann]) and 'Cat's Squirrel' (with [a=Masami Akita]). Artworks for all releases on Black Truffle are designed by either [a=Stephen O'Malley] or Lasse Marhaug. The French black truffle is considered the finest of the edible fungi and has a place in gastronomy alongside saffron, caviar, foie gras and the finest of wines. Widely considered as the jewel of French cooking it is prized for its unique flavour and intoxicating aroma. The resident chef at Black Truffle Records has found that the best method for finding the "diamond of the kitchen" requires the use of a divining stick and facing into the sun.
