Perina

Profile

Perina was one of several Indonesian labels of dubious legal status active between the sixties and the late eighties when the long arm of the recording industry finally caught up with them. While there is little doubt as to the seriousness of the operation (catalogue numbers, reasonable sound quality, wide scope of output), their professionalism left much to be desired for: the track listings are riddled with numerous spelling and contextual errors, often even using different fonts within the same section. Typically, the cover picture consists of a small photograph of the original album cut out and affixed to the distinctive yellow heavy paper J-cards. One observer has remarked that "you would basically order an album at a market stall, and they'd stream and assemble a tape for you right there on the spot in a matter of minutes."
