Profile

[b]Use this page to enter two-minute Edison cylinders produced after May 1908 = catalog # 9842 (American Series). For catalog #s 1 - 9841, please refer to [l112006][/b]. In mid-1908, [a1195433]'s engineers had developed a new method for producing the high speed hard wax moulded cylinder records that had been marketed by the [l693360] as "[l112006]" since 1903. The new method substituted finely powdered graphite for gold in the plating process. At this time the "Gold Moulded" designation was dropped from cylinder boxes and promotional materials. For a short period, these cylinders were marketed in tubes labeled simply "Edison Records", but with the introduction of the 4 minute [l112012] in October 1908, the two minute issues were designated "Edison Standard Records".
