Black Editions (2)

Profile

Black Editions is an American independent record label founded in 2015 by experimental musician and guitarist [a=Peter Kolovos] and based in Los Angeles, California. Kolovos started the imprint to produce high-quality, definitive vinyl reissues from the catalog of the legendary Japanese label [l40166]. Subsequently, Black Editions started releasing other works by prominent underground artists from Japan. Today, it's part of Black Editions Group, a company owned by Kolovos and comprised of three record labels: Black Editions, [l=Thin Wrist Recordings] (Peter's first label launched in 1999) and VDSQ (started by [a=Steve Lowenthal] in 2009). In 2019, Black Editions signed a new licensing agreement with [l=Jinya Disc] to present new LP editions from the back catalog and unreleased archives of a Japanese avant-jazz/free improvisation/noise pioneer [a501000]. In early 2022, Peter Kolovos launched a new series, [l=Black Editions Archive], dedicated to previously unreleased recordings featuring [a=Milford Graves]. It started with a 2xLP [m=2490658], the first ever album to feature Graves with [a222600] and [a120328] in a March 2002 concert recorded at [l804666], New York.
