Incus

Profile

The label Incus is one of the world's leading free improvisation labels. It was established in 1970 by [a41904], [a267024] and [a42708]. Please use this as the label. Please use [l23055] as the record company. The label name printed as the single word “Incus” on the majority of labels and covers. However, a small number of the label’s early releases clearly state “Incus Records” on the label. This is most common on early releases with black labels. Based on the evidence available in Discogs then, the label was called “Incus Records” from 1971 up to 1973, then "Incus" from 1974 thereafter. From INCUS 24 (SME: Biosystem) the font of the Incus-logo on the labels was changed from serif to sans-serif. This can be used to determine pressings, as many early releases were reissued after the change in the logo. The vinyl releases tended to print the catalogue number preceded by the word INCUS. This practice discontinues when the label started producing CDs and CDRs.
